In August of 2010, I listened to a heart intuition, left my old life behind and embarked upon a solo cross-country journey with the intention of delving deeper into my spiritual practice. My journey is a constant practice of truly living my yoga by thinking from and being in a place of love and wholeness, creating relationships and community, and living life fully in honor of the evolution of self. Through the lessons I learn, my yoga and writing I hope that I can inspire others to do the same.

yoga

Yoga is derived from a Sanskrit word that means yoke or union. Through the practice of all aspects of yoga we join the individual self with the Divine, Universal Spirit, or Cosmic Consciousness. Yoga has been an integral tool in supporting me through a profoundly transformative time in my life, yet I began my yoga journey as many do in the west, as another form of physical activity. As an athlete throughout most of my life, I had sustained numerous physical injuries and I was living with reoccurring pain from old injuries. A friend suggested that I try yoga.

fitness

My connection to my body began long before yoga, in my youth where I thrived on various athletics and outdoor activities. Competitiveness was strong within me and even overwhelmed me at times, manifesting a need to be perfect and excel in everything I tried. My love for fitness and performance keeps me connected to the fitness community but my perspectives have changed. I continue to honor my athletic nature but from a noncompetitive, non-harming aspect and therein I also honor my mind and my spirit. My body thanks me for it, my mind can rest and my spirit can be free.

travel

Travel gives me a feeling of freedom like none other I have felt. I know not who or what planted the wanderlust seed within me, but as a woman transitioning into her forties, the seed has grown into a blossoming vine that intertwines itself into all aspects of my life. Travel for me is another tool in developing a larger connection to the world in which I live. The more I travel the more I experience and understand the interconnectedness of all cultures, beings and things. When experiencing the world through travel, my heart space opens wide as my perceptions and awareness are raised to a new level.
